What is the internal reason for blocking US bomb shipments to Israel?
The only country that can force Israel to listen is the United States. However, occupying Israel has ignored almost all of the instructions given by the US in the ongoing war with Hamas.
The US has said it has strong support for Israel in its fight against Hamas. But the current US administration has repeatedly barred Israel from launching major attacks on Gaza's Rafah, where some 1.4 million Palestinians have taken refuge. But the occupiers ignored this ban.
However, after seven months, the United States gradually began to apply pressure on Israel. They secretly warned Israel. Publicly warned. They stopped short of vetoing resolutions condemning Israel at the United Nations and imposed sanctions against illegal settlers in the West Bank.
Last month, US President Joe Biden threatened Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by telephone that if Israel did not allow enough aid to reach Gaza, it would cut its military aid.
However, Israel did not pay attention to these threats. Finally the US has taken their biggest step yet. They intercepted a bomb shipment to Israel.
The Biden administration also said it is now considering giving Israel the kits to convert dumb bombs into precision bombs.
But why did the United States finally decide? What is the reason behind it?
The British media BBC reported in their analysis that the first answer is that the US fears that if Israel launches a full-scale military attack on Gaza's Rafah, many innocent civilians may lose their lives.
US officials said the shipment of bombs they intercepted could have been used in Rafah. Due to this apprehension the consignment has been withheld. They said that if these bombs are thrown in a populated area like Rafah, the common people will suffer huge losses.
A US official said the blocking of the bomb shipment meant the US had given Israel a 'warning'. It shows how serious they are about not attacking Rafah.
The second answer is that the US wants to pressure Israel into agreeing to a ceasefire with Hamas. Ceasefire negotiations are currently underway in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Washington wants to increase pressure on Israel if it does not agree to a ceasefire.
The third answer is the account of US President Joe Biden's Democratic Party politics. They fear that continued support for Israel will keep young Democrats from voting in the upcoming presidential election. And if they don't come, Biden's victory against Trump will be difficult.
However, the United States has also taken risks by blocking the shipment of bombs. Because Israel can still ignore them if it wants to. Because Israel believes long-term US military support will continue. However, this will damage the image of the United States worldwide. Because then many people will think that the influence of the United States in the international field has decreased.
But the bottom line is that the US is not Israel's only arms supplier. If the United States freezes the bomb shipments, other countries, including the United Kingdom, may take the same decision.
